Police officer bitten by dog while responding to house gathering in Johnstone

It happened on Friday afternoon - several people were given Fixed Penalty Notices.

A police officer's been bitten by a dog after being called to reports of a house gathering in Johnstone.

It happened around 3.25pm on Friday afternoon on Spateston Road, when the officer arrived at the address following a potential breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

A number of people at the gathering were given Fixed Penalty Notices and a 25-year old woman's been arrested and charged under the Control of Dogs Act.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police attended an address in Spateston Road, Johnstone, at around 3.25pm on Friday after reports of a gathering which potentially breached current Covid-19 restrictions.

"In the course of those enquiries a male officer was injured when he was bitten by a dog and was treated in hospital.

"A number of people were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices.

"Police officers, like everyone else, have the right to go to work and return home safely without fear of injury.

"We have a zero tolerance approach to all acts of violence against offices and we will investigate the circumstances of all incidents fully.”
