Paedophile ex-Celtic youth coach Jim McCafferty dies in prison
Former Celtic youth football coach Jim McCafferty has died in prison at the age of 76.
He was found dead in Glenochil prison in Clackmannanshire on Saturday the 19th of November at the age of 76.
In 2019 McCafferty was jailed for six years and nine months at Edinburgh High Court after admitting a series of crimes against teenage boys.
He pleaded guilty to 11 charges involving ten victims between 1972 and 1996
A statement on the Scottish Prison Service website reads: "James McCafferty, 76, a prisoner at HMP Glenochil, has died on Saturday, November 19, 2022. He was convicted at Edinburgh High Court in 2019.
"Police Scotland have been notified and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of the sudden death of a 76-year-old man at HMP Glenochil, around 5.40am on Saturday, 19 November, 2022.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
