A man has been arrested in India in connection with the murder of a woman in Scotland more than 17 years ago.
A man has been arrested in India in connection with the murder of a woman in Scotland more than 17 years ago. Tracey Wylde, 21, who was known to be a prostitute, was found dead in her Glasgow flat in November 1997. Police Scotland said that a 37-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai, India, on Friday and is currently detained by police in the country. The Crown Office named the arrested man as Sougat Mukherjee.
The force said: "Officers from Police Scotland can confirm on Friday January 9 2015, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai, India, and is presently detained by police in India. "Tracey's family has been informed of the development and officers will continue to liaise closely with her family.'' Prosecutors are working with authorities in India. A Crown Office spokesman said: "We have been advised that the warrant for Sougat Mukherjee has been executed by the Indian authorities and our international co-operation unit, working with Police Scotland's fugitives unit and the National Crime Agency, will take the necessary steps to secure his appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court to answer the warrant.''
