More than 300 Glasgow school children are heading to Troon this morning as the famous charity taxi trip returns to mark its 75th anniversary.

The outing is organised by Glasgow Taxis and drivers will take kids with additional support needs to the seaside town.

Drivers haven't been able to take the children to Troon since 2019 because of the pandemic.

"An amazing day"

Driver Jim Buchanan told Clyde 1: "The kids absolutely love going down to Troon in the decorated taxis.

"The driver will give them a big box of sweets, a packed lunch and they get a goodie bag.

"It's an amazing day."

Cameron is a pupil at Hazelwood Primary and will be making the journey to the seaside next Wednesday.

He said: "I am really happy to be going and looking forward to seeing all the big balloons.

"I am also excited to see all the different taxis which are decorated with colourful designs.

"When I arrive I will get to play in the sand with all my friends."

Wave to the taxis

Parents and carers will head down to Kelvin Way in the West End to wave off children from 9 different schools on their journey.

The cabs will gather at 10am for a competition to decide the best decorated vehicle.

At 10.45 the parade leaves Kelvin Way, driving along Sauchiehall Street towards the city centre.

At 11.30 the procession will leave George Sqaure and head off to the south side via Renfield Street, Union Street and Bridge Street, then pass through Shawlands and on to Troon where arrival is expected between 12.30 and 13.00.
