Searches are being carried out in Glasgow and the west after a prisoner absconded from Scotland's only open jail, near Dundee.

David Arthur, 31, a prisoner at HMP Castle Huntly, who was on a temporary period of leave, was last seen in the Shore Road area of Perth at around 12:30pm on Monday.

Police are appealing for information to help trace him.

Officers believe Arthur has connections in the Paisley area and inquiries are ongoing there and throughout Glasgow.

He is described as 5ft 10in, of slim build, with blue eyes and short black hair.

His last known clothing is thought to be a grey jumper and dark tracksuit bottoms, police said.

Members of the public are warned not to approach him, and instead should contact Police Scotland on 101.

Information can also be given anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
