British Transport Police is appealing for information after a ticket examiner was left extremely upset after she was verbally abused and threatened by a train passenger.

The inspector, a 30 year old woman, was checking tickets at around 08:40 on the 07.59 Helensburgh Central to Airdrie service.

She was left shocked after being verbally abused and threatened with violence, for no apparent reason, by the man as the train travelled between Westerton and Partick stations. The suspect is described as being aged between 50 and 60 years, about 5’7” in height, stocky build and had stubble on his face. He was wearing a dark jacket and was carrying a rucksack. The BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, Constable Gary Ketterer is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Rail staff should be able to carry out their duties without encountering such despicable behaviour. Anyone who was on the train, which was extremely busy at the time, and has information regarding this unsavoury incident should contact BTP immediately.” A spokeswoman for ScotRail said: “We do not tolerate any kind of abusive behaviour towards our staff, and we will work with BTP to ensure the offender is brought to justice.”
