Scottish health secretary Humza Yousaf claims he is thinking about putting himself forward to be elected by the SNP as the party's next leader and First Minister.
He is being tipped as one of the likely contenders after Nicola Sturgeon resigned on Wednesday.
He told Clyde 1: "I've not made a decision yet about whether I think it is the right thing for me or not.
"I need more time to think about how it would impact my family, but I am giving it very serious considering because that is what the top job deserves.
"We are facing some significant challenges just now with the cost-of-living crisis and we need to make sure we have someone who can help lead us to independence."
Reacting to the news Humza Yousaf is considering standing Scottish Labour health spokesperson Jackie Baillie said: "I think this is astonishing.
"Humza Yousaf has been the worst health secretary since devolution and I am amazed he thinks he could be the country's next First Minister.
"The NHS is in real crisis and people are really struggling with the cost-of-living crisis just now and the SNP has no answers for solving these issues just now."
