No harmful fumes found in Kilmarnock after 'suspected chemical incident'

No harmful fumes have been found on Nelson St in Kilmarnock which was closed off earlier because of a suspected chemical incident.

The alarm was raised just after half 11 this morning at the offices of Stirling Park - it's understood at least 4 people then took themselves to hospital feeling unwell.

A fire spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a suspected chemical incident in Nelson Street, Kilmarnock.

“Operations Control was notified at 11.43am on Friday, September 1 and mobilised two appliances and an environmental protection unit to the scene.

“After a thorough examination of the building the surrounding area, no harmful substances were found.”

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

"We received a call at 1105 hours today to attend an incident at Kilwinning Acamedy.

"We dispatched two ambulances and a paramedic response unit to the scene.

“Two patients were taken to University Crosshouse Hospital.

“At 1219 hours today, we received another call to attend Kilwinning Academy.

“We dispatched one ambulance.

“Two patients were treated at the scene and declined transport to hospital.
