Hamilton thug, who carried out armed robbery while on early release, back behind bars

A thug who carried out an armed robbery weeks after being freed early from jail is back behind bars. Connor Brown was locked up for three years in 2017 after slashing a man at a party in Carluke, Lanarkshire.

Brown was later released with more than a year of his sentence still to run.

The 22 year-old was then trusted to stay out of trouble - but, just three weeks after being freed, he was involved in an assault and robbery.

It meant Brown was back to the High Court in Glasgow before Lord Burns - the judge who imposed the three year term.

He ordered the thug, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, to serve 275 days of the sentence he was freed early from.

The judge said: “For someone your age, you have a formidable record.

“You seem to use violence as the first resort rather than the last.

“You were released on licence on the basis that you were to behave yourself - but a few weeks later committed another offence.”

Brown must serve the 275 days before the sentence for the assault and robbery.

He is due to learn his fate for that at Hamilton Sheriff Court next month.
