NHS Lanarkshire says strict control measures are now in place to keep patients and staff safe
NHS Lanarkshire is dealing with a coronavirus outbreak at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.
Ward 16 at the hospital is currently closed to new admissions, with strict control measures in place and teams working to identify close contacts of those who have tested positive for the infection.
Russell Coulthard, director of hospital services, University Hospital Hairmyres, said: “We have identified Covid-19 cases in ward 16 at University Hospital Hairmyres.
“The ward is currently closed to new admissions and transfers and strict control measures are in place to reduce the risk of infection and the situation continues to be monitored very closely.
“The safety of our patients and staff is of paramount importance and we would like to reassure everyone that we are taking all necessary action to ensure safe and effective patient care at this time.
“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."
“NHS Lanarkshire’s infection prevention and control team is in the process of identifying all close contacts of the cases who are being given public health advice and being told to self-isolate.
"We wish to remind people of the key symptoms of Covid-19; a new continuous cough, high temperature and/or loss of taste or smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
