5 months of roadworks ahead to fix Greenock flood hotspot
From Monday 26 June, drivers will be faced with delays
Drivers are being warned of upcoming roadworks on East Hamilton Street on the A8 through Greenock.
The work by Scottish Water is set to last for five months from Monday 26 June.
Work is ongoing to try a solve a flooding problem on the road, and engineers have now constructed a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) beneath Inverclyde Council’s roads depot in Pottery Street.
The next phase of the project is now to upgrade the sewer network on East Hamilton Street, and connect it to the new CSO, as part of a £2.5 million project to tackle the flooding.
Motorists are being urged to leave extra time for journeys.
'Confident we can keep traffic moving'
Georgina Reid, Scottish Water’s regional affairs manager in the west said: “We carried out some preparatory works over several weeks last month and the traffic management arrangements worked well.
“They were effectively a dress rehearsal for the next five months and we are confident we can keep traffic moving.
“We have been planning for this phase for many months, working with partners, stakeholders and local agencies to ensure as little disruption as possible while we carry out this vital project.
“The important thing to remember is to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for journeys.”
