Regal visitor for opening of Greenock's new cruise terminal
Over 150,000 passengers will pass through every year
Cunard’s Queen Victoria’s arrived in Greenock to make a spectacular backdrop for the official opening of the town’s new Ocean Terminal cruise ship visitor centre.
The eye-catching £20 million building and pier has been built to welcome more than 150,000 passengers from the giant ships which are now a regular sight in the Firth of Clyde.
The facility also features a Scotts bar and restaurant on the upper level and a museum paying tribute to the late, world-famous artist George Wyllie, who worked as a Customs Officer in Greenock, and roof terrace with panoramic views of the River Clyde.
Previously, passengers who disembarked for a day exploring attractions across Glasgow and the west had to pass through a makeshift terminal in former warehouses at the container port.
More than 70 jobs have been created by the development which is expected to provide a £26m boost to the Scottish economy.
The project was delivered by Inverclyde Council with funding by the UK and Scottish governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal and contributions from the George Wyllie Foundation and Peel Ports.
