Published 28th Jun 2018

Detectives are investigating a report of a man being hit by a vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday 27 June 2018 around 1:15am on St Lawrence Street, Greenock. The car drove off and the 22 year old man made his own way to Inverclyde Hospital. He was later released following examination.

Officers have been carrying out enquiries to try and establish if the vehicle was driven deliberately at the man or if this is a road traffic incident. A dark coloured car, with damaged windows, was seen speeding off.

Detectives are also investigating reports of a disturbance around the time of this incident which may be linked.

Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and checking CCTV footage for further information which could assist in their investigation.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “Our inquiries are in the very early stages as we try to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened and why. I would ask local garages to get in touch with us if they receive or have received any damaged, dark coloured cars for repair since 1.15am on Wednesday morning, in particular damaged windows or bodywork. If anyone has any information which could assist us then please do contact us. Do not think your information is not important or relevant as it could prove vital in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Greenock Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0211 of 27 June. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
