Police launch Greenock attempted murder probe after late night attack

A 21-year-old man is seriously injured as officers also investigate an assault on a 66-year-old man

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted murder of a young man in Greenock last night and another serious assault.

Officers were called after a 21-year-old man found badly injured in the West Blackhall Street area just after midnight.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

West Blackhall Street at Jamaica Street in Greenock is currently closed while enquiries are carried out.

Detective Inspector Euan McMillan said: “We are looking for any witnesses who had been in the area around the time of this incident to contact police.

“Additionally, anyone with any CCTV or dash-cam footage around this time which may assist in our enquiries is asked to come forward.”

The force is also seeking help after a 66-year-old man was found seriously hurt on the town's Lynedoch Street jusst after 10pm.

Detective Sergeant Jamie McAteer said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident and anyone who was in the area around this time is asked to contact police.

“We would also ask motorists to check their dash-cam footage as well as anyone with CCTV, which may have captured anything from around this time, to get in touch.”
