Govan Road flats evacuated after suspected gas leak

The road was closed to traffic overnight but reopened on Saturday morning.

Flats on Govan Road have been evacuated because of a suspected gas leak.

Three fire appliances were sent out just before 10.30pm on Friday night.

The road was closed to traffic overnight but reopened on Saturday morning.

No one was hurt.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said:

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue were alerted at 10.28pm on Friday to reports of a potential carbon monoxide leak within a block of flats in Govan Road.

"Operations control mobilised three appliances to ensure the area is safe.

"A number of nearby properties were evacuated. There have been no reported casualties."

A Police Scotland spokesperson says:

"Police were called around 8.50pm on Friday, 1 May, to Govan Road in Glasgow to assist with traffic management. "
