Govan rapist caught with trousers on the wrong way
Ranna Singh tried to deny pouncing on his terrified victim at his flat in April last year
A convincted sex predator raped a woman - and then got caught with his trousers on the wrong way. Ranna Singh pounced on his terrified victim at his flat in Govan, Glasgow in April last year.
Singh was back on the streets a decade after he and an accomplice raped a woman at knifepoint in a country lane.
The 37 year-old had lured this latest victim stating it was “safer” at his home rather than risk taking “a fake taxi”.
Jurors heard he denied any sex - but police found him with his trousers on back to front when they turned up.
Singh now faces a possible life sentence after again being convicted of rape at the High Court in Glasgow today.
Singh and friend Mohammed Yousaff had each previously been jailed for six years there for the previous sex attack.
He is due to learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.
Singh had been with the woman at a nightclub in the city's Merchant City.
They left in the early hours and got a taxi back to the flat he shared with his brother.
Prosecutors stated it was there Singh violently raped the woman - but he denied any “sexual contact” occurred.
Singh claimed his brother had instead apparently reported the woman to police for criminal damage.
He suggested that was why she had then made the rape accusation.
Jurors heard when officers arrived they spotted something noticeable about Singh's trousers.
Prosecutor Allan Nicol put to him: “How did they get on the wrong way round?”
Singh: “They were not.”
The advocate depute: “Police are telling lies about your trousers being on the wrong way?”
He replied: “That's right.”
Jurors heard Singh struggled with police - and tried to film them at the flat.
The court was told he had earlier claimed to the woman “you are better staying at mine”.
Mr Nicol put to Singh: “You were telling her stories about unlicensed taxis and that it was safer to go to yours.
“Is she telling lies about that?”
Singh: “Yes.”
Mr Nicol: “She said you were talking about fake taxis taking people away. Did she just make that up?”
Singh: “Yes.”
The court was told today/yesterday Singh was already the subject of an interim sexual offences prevention order at the time.
This banned him from approaching or contacting prostitutes.
Lady Rae remanded Singh in custody as sentencing was adjourned until next month in Edinburgh.
The judge told him: “You have been convicted of a serious charge involving violence towards a woman
“You have a significant record including a conviction for rape in 2007.
“I am serious considering an order for lifelong restriction.
“This is in view of the risk you clearly present to the public and particularly women.”
Singh's previous attack saw a woman raped in a lane in Howwood, Renfrewshire.
Prosecutors branded the crime “forceful and degrading” - including the victim being called “white scum”.
She believed she was going to be killed after being told: “Just do as we tell you or you are going to be murdered and put in the waterfront.”
As well as being jailed, Singh and Yousaff were also ordered to be monitored for two years on their release.
