Good Samaritan Seriously Attacked In Kirkintilloch

Police at Kirkintilloch are continuing enquiries after a man was assaulted on Saturday 31 January 2015 in David Donnelly Place, Kirkintilloch.

Around 0200 hrs on Saturday 31 January 2015, the 51-year-old man was standing outside Smiths Hotel, David Donnelly Place, Kirkintilloch when he tried to assist a woman who was being assaulted by a man

The 51-year-old man was then assaulted by this man who repeatedly punched and kicked him to the ground. The suspect was then joined by another man who also began assaulting the man who at this time was lying on the ground. Both men then dragged him along the ground before running off along with the woman who the injured man had tried to assist.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated for serious facial injuries. He has now been released from hospital.

The two men responsible for the assault are described as:

1/ white, 25-30 years, dark hair wearing a white shirt and dark trousers.

2/ white, 25-30 years wearing a dark suit jacket and trousers.

The female who was assaulted by the first suspect and ran off with both men is described as white, tall, thin build with long brown hair. She was wearing a cream coloured fur body warmer.

Detective Constable Alyson Paton at Kirkintilloch CID said:

“This was an extremely violent and sustained attack on a man who was only trying to assist a woman who was being assaulted.

“We know that there were a number of people nearby who either witnessed this incident or tried to intervene. I urge any of these people who haven’t already spoken to police to contact police immediately.”
