Golf-club gang attack in Hamilton leaves man with serious injuries

A man's being treated in hospital for serious injuries to his face and head after he was attacked by a gang with golf clubs and other weapons in Hamilton last night.

The 44 year old got out of his black range rover on Backmuir Drive at it's junction with Whistleberry Drive at quarter to ten.

He was attacked by four or five men who made off along Whistleberry Crescent.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment to serious head and facial injuries, as well as significant bruising and swelling to his body. Medical staff described his condition as stable.

The first suspect is described as white, between 18 and 25 years old, of slim build with short fair hair and wearing a black hoodie.

The second suspect is described white, between 18 and 25 years old, of slim build with short dark hair and wearing a black zipper. The third suspect is described as white, between 18 and 25 years old, of medium build with long dark hair flopped at the front, and wearing a dark grey Nike Hoodie.

The other suspects are described as white, between 18 and 25 years old, and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable John Law from Cambuslang CID said: "This was an extremely violent and targeted attack on the victim and it is vital that anyone with information which could help us trace the abhorrent individuals responsible comes forward.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and either witnessed what happened or noticed a group of young men matching the above descriptions to please get in touch.

"Additional patrols will be in the area to provided reassurance to the local community and I would urge anyone with concerns to approach the officers who will be happy to speak with them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Cambuslang CID via 101, quoting incident number 3548 of Thursday 3 January 2019."
