"I am going to be honest with you - I battered him"
A BARMAN claimed he prayed he had not killed his victim following a brutal battering, a court heard. William McNulty pounced on Marc Brisbane in Glasgow's Saltmarket last June. A judge was told how the pair previously had "a minor altercation". Mr Brisbane was left for dead after being punched, kicked and stamped upon by McNulty. First offender McNulty pled guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to assaulting Mr Brisbane to the danger of his life. The 22 year-old looked on the verge of tears as he was remanded in custody pending sentencing next month. The attack happened late last June 18 after the pair had been in a city centre bar. Mr Brisbane was left blood soaked and lying lifeless in the street after being set upon. McNulty, of the city's Gorbals, was found by police near the scene. He then confessed: "I am going to be honest with you - I battered him. Is he going to be alright? "I stood at the corner watching and praying he would move. I thought I had killed him." The court heard Mr Brisbane suffered a number of serious injuries including a broken nose and a collapsed lung. Prosecutor Ross McFarlane said if the victim had not received prompt medical care, he would "almost certainly" have died. Mr Brisbane has been left permanently scarred. He is now also scared to leave the house and often wakes up screaming at night due to his ordeal. Judge Lord Bannatyne deferred sentencing until May 6 in Livingston.
