A woman has recalled “blood running” after being repeatedly stabbed as she made her way to work.

Margaret Campbell was assaulted on way to her early hours cleaning job in Glasgow's Gorbals in March last year.

The 58 year-old told how a man in a red jacket attacked her as she gasped “oh, my god” at what was happening.

A jury heard Margaret – who was stabbed six times – has been left feeling “scared” following her ordeal.

She was today giving evidence at the trial of Edward Coyle at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 50 year-old denies attempting to murder Margaret on March 17 last year.

Margaret was walking to her job at the city's Dixon Blazes industrial estate around 5am when she was attacked.

The cleaner said she found it “strange” when she spotted a man in an area usually quiet at that time.

She crossed over to try and avoid him – before the individual “came at” her.

Margaret told how it was the man's red jacket that stood out.

The witness added: “As I went onto the road, I was attacked...stabbed six times and (suffered) a punctured lung.”

She remembered “movement” from the man, but did not see a weapon as it happened “so quick”.

Margaret went on: “I realised something was not right – I could not breathe.”

Prosecutor Michael Meehan asked did she notice any blood.

Margaret replied: “There was blood running.”

She managed to get to the warehouse where she worked and told a colleague: “I have been stabbed.”

The court heard the man did not speak during the incident. Mr Meehan asked Margaret did she say anything.

Margaret told the court: “I think I said: 'oh my god' at the start of it.”

The trial heard she was off work for up to eight months after the incident.

Asked how it has affected her, Margaret replied: “I am scared and on medication to try and calm me down.

“I do not like anyone approaching me and I am nervous all the time.”

Coyle also denies a attempting to murder a man and two further assaults on March 15 last year.

The trial, before Judge Lord Armstrong, continues
