The family of a woman who was killed in a crash involving a car being chased by police while she was returning home from her son's wedding have spoken of their shock.

Mary Laurie, also known as Marie, from Easterhouse, Glasgow, was returning from the celebrations on Sunday morning when the taxi she was travelling in was struck by a green Vauxhall Astra at traffic lights at the junction of Stepps Road and Springboig Road.

Emergency services attended but Mrs Laurie died at the scene.

The Astra was being pursued by police at the time of the crash after it had failed to stop when signalled to by a marked police van at around 1.30am on Sunday.

Mrs Laurie had just entered the taxi with her husband Jamie when the collision happened.

Her sister Alison said: We're angry. It might sound really bad but someone can walk away with a cut and my sister is not coming back.

Jamie had not even got time to sit down. He said he looked up and saw headlights coming and then woke up after it.''

Her niece Michelle said the family had been enjoying an amazing day'' at the wedding.

She said: She was happy. We're just so glad that we got to spend that day with her.

She was proud of her son, happy to see all her family together. It's just been so hard because we were all together up dancing, having dinner, drinking champagne and then to be woken to be told she's not here.

You're waiting on her walking in, to sit and grieve with us, as if it's somebody else. It happens to other people's family, it doesn't happen to our family. You read it in the paper, see it on the soaps.''

A 20-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.

Police said the incident has been referred to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner for consideration, as is standard procedure.
