Hundreds of Glaswegians holidays have been disrupted after a Tui flight headed for Gran Canaria attempted to land twice unsuccessfully.

Flight BY1480 tried to touch down in high winds but was forced to divert to Tenerife.

It has since landed there, and passengers have been left in a holding area.

Some have taken to social media to complain about a lack of information and staff on hand to help.

Flight TOM1481 which was also due to depart from Gran Canaria and land in Glasgow tonight has been cancelled as a result.

We're also hearing reports the bus taking stranded passengers to a hotel broke down, adding further delays.

Replying to a passenger complaint on X, formerly known as Twitter, TUI said: “Due to weather conditions in Gran Canaria, we were unable to safely land and therefore, your plane was diverted.

“We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.”

On the flight being arranged to finish the journey to Gran Canaria, the airline added: “The aircraft is just having a small technical issue rectified.

“We hope to get you away to shortly.”
