Glasgow tourist 'slept in' for Bali boat that exploded
Lauren Marshall and her boyfriend were supposed to be on the ferry from Bali to Gili Islands this morning.
Clyde News is hearing from a lucky tourist from Glasgow who missed a ferry in Bali that blew up leaving two people dead and dozens injured.
Lauren Marshall, 28, and her boyfriend Jak Carlin, 25, were supposed to travel to Gili Islands this morning, but fortunately for them, they slept in.
She said; “We’d arrived from Dubai late last night and we are still on that time-zone, which is four hours behind. We were supposed to get on the boat to Gili C this morning, but because we were still tired from the jetlag, we slept in and missed the boat.
“At first we didn’t think much of it, and just thought we’ll get the boat tomorrow so went up to the pool to sunbathe. We heard about it all when our parents started to call us frantically to check if we were okay.
“They even phoned the Home Office to check on us!
“But over here, it’s surprisingly calm. We contacted the company who scheduled the booking for us and they said the boat will be running as normal tomorrow.
“We feel a bit apprehensive about traveling on the boat tomorrow, but we feel really lucky and fortunate not to have gone on it today.
“We could get a flight, but I think we’ll be okay. You’d get back in a car again if you had an accident and so we’ll just have to get on with it.
“Our families are worried sick about us, but we know we are okay. I think it was just complete shock and we’ve felt a bit numb reading about what happened.”
Dazed passengers, many covered in cuts and bruises, were taken to medical centres on the Indonesian holiday island after the blast.
Pictures on social media show victims of the blast being carried on stretchers to ambulances and lying in hospital beds.
Nationals from France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Spain were on the boat, it's believed two people are dead.
The accident appeared to be an explosion occuring in the fuel tank.
