Around 250 homes in Glasgow were left without power after a fire in an electrical substation.
Police and the fire service are investigating the cause of the blaze in Inchoch Street, Garthamlock, at around 5pm today, which caused 500 homes to lose electricity.
In order to tackle the fire, the power in the area had to be turned off, with half of the properties affected reconnected within an hour.
A number of residents living close to the fire were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
No-one was injured.
Police warned that some homes may be without power for an extended period of time'' and officers are increasing patrols in the area to
provide reassurance''.
Inspector Alan Bowater said: We are currently working with our partners in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Power and Glasgow City Council to make sure that people are safe and that power is restored as soon as possible.
We have increased our high-visibility patrols in the area to provide additional reassurance throughout the evening. An incident caravan has been located close to Inchoch Street where people can come and talk to officers should they wish.
Scottish Power engineers are working throughout the night to restore power to local residents. Half of those affected had their power restored within the first hour and those efforts will continue throughout the night to restore power to local residents if necessary.
For local residents, please plan ahead for the possibility that you may be without power for an extended period of time. Please don't hesitate to speak with officers in the area with any concerns you may have.
For people trying to contact friends or family in the Garthamlock area, please be aware that landlines may be without power, or mobile phones may be without charge.''
