Glasgow sends aid to Grenfell Tower survivors
Trucks will take supplies to London this weekend
The Glasgow the Caring City charity is to sent a convoy of aid to London this weekend to help families left homeless after the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.
The death toll from the devastating tower block inferno is expected to rise as investigators trawl through the wreckage in the search for other victims.
More than £1 million has been raised to help those affected as fire tore through the 24-storey building while volunteers and charities helped with feed and shelter people who could not return to their homes overnight.
The supplies will be trucked down to London on Sunday by Bullet Express.
A statement on the charity's website said: "We, like everyone, have been shocked and deeply saddened by the incident at Grenfell Tower in London.
"Our long established links in the city of London allow us to respond swiftly and in a coordinated way.
Supplies will include bottled water, soap, nappies & toothbrushes. These are BULK Donation items. Not public donations.
"We would urge anyone thinking of running clothing and uncoordinated aid to London, to think again before setting out.
"Uncoordinated but well intended goodwill will put strain on the already stressed community response.
"This is not a public appeal for support", it stressed.
