Where to get rid of rubbish in Glasgow after Christmas
Find out when your bins will be collected, and when your local dump is open, over the festive period.
With Christmas and Boxing Day now behind us, many of us are wondering how to get rid of the piles of cardboard and wrapping papers left in our homes.
Find out everything you need to know about festive bin collections and where to dispose of excess rubbish here.
When will my bins be lifted?
Your bins may not be collected when you expect them to be - here's a full timetable:
If you live in a flat or tenement your bin will still be collected, although it may be on a different day.
Can I put Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the blue bin?
Plain Christmas cards can be placed in the blue recycling bins, although cards decorated with glitter can't, as this potentially causes problems at the paper mill.
Remove any ribbons or bows from wrapping paper before putting them in the blue bin.
Metallic shiny paper should not be disposed of in those bins.
The scrunch test is a simple way to find out whether wrapping paper is made from plastic film.
Simply scrunch it in your hand - if it remains 'scrunched' it can be recycled; if it springs back it is probably plastic film and not recyclable.
Recycling centres
For anything you can't fit in your household bins, recycling centres are still open every day between 8am-6pm, except on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
You can dispose of cardboard, wood, textiles, and electrical items there.
Here is a full list of accepted items.
