A Glasgow pub owner says he's "absolutely gutted" at being forced to close his bar, which has served punters for 60 years.

The Admiral bar on Waterloo Street will call last orders on March 11th due to plans for site redevelopment.

A Facebook post announcing the news yesterday read: "The Admiral Bar after 60 years , 17 in our hands the Admiral will call last orders after Saturday 11th March due to site redevelopment.

"We thank you, the public, the promoters, the event organisers, and most importantly our magnificent staff for all your support through these years.

"The Admiral has been unique a community in the city centre.

"This has been a difficult and traumatic time for those directly impacted.

"Closing a business is one thing, closing a successful, solvent and iconic institution has been another.

"This is merely Au Revoir.

"Business as usual until 11th March, please book let's make it the busiest and best ever."

Owner Dave Ross outlined to Clyde News his family ties to the establishment.

He said: "I'm absolutely gutted.

"The Admiral is for me and always was my favourite bar in the city.

"My daughter who is now in her 30s is the General Manager and has worked there since leaving college in her teens."

He also outlined who has appeared in the pub over the last six decades and how Taggart star Colin McCredie is one of many to get in touch with him.

Dave added; "Allegedly, (Led Zeppelin guitarist) Jimmy Page has played there and our very own Billy Connelly.

"I've been bombarded with well-wishers all over the world, but most significantly it's the staff and the patrons who have been absolutely fantastic."

Dave also says plans are already well underway with well known faces on the Glasgow music scene to make sure they say goodbye properly.

He said: "They've all been in touch, everybody wants to go out with a bang.

"Watch this space, we'll be announcing the farewell parties very soon."
