Company submits proposal for Glasgow marathon
The 26.2 mile race hasn't been run here since 1987
Clyde News can reveal the Glasgow marathon could be set for a return to the city's streets.
The Great Scottish Run and the Women's 10k are the main highlights of Glasgow’s annual sport schedule, but the famous 26.2-mile race hasn't been run here since 1987.
The distance was then shortened due to falling competitor numbers, little television coverage and the lack of a sponsor.
But Clyde News understands a company has submitted proposals to the local authority expressing an interest in bringing the event back.
A spokesman for Glasgow Life, said: “We have received a proposal from a third party expressing an interest to hold a marathon event in the city.
“As with all such proposals this will be considered by the city’s Event Board in due course."
A professional marathon was last run in Glasgow as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
