Glasgow man loses over £40,000 after being found with 18 bags of cocaine down his underpants

** **At Glasgow Sheriff Court today, David Thomson, from Glasgow, was made subject of a confiscation order for £41,000 and sentenced to a 250 hr Community Payback Order.

Police Scotland had received intelligence that the accused was using his vehicle to distribute controlled drugs in the North Glasgow area. On 10 January 2013, Police officers located his vehicle and detained the accused. They recovered £600 in cash from the car, and the accused later produced 18 bags from his underpants, each containing between 0.4 and 0.8 grams of cocaine. A search of his home address later recovered a further £3,800 in cash.

On 17 June 2013 he plead guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Following a full financial investigation of his finances for the six years prior to his arrest by the Crown Office’s Serious Organised Crime Division, we have secured the confiscation of £41,000 of his assets which he could not legally account for.

Speaking after the conclusion of the case, Lindsey Miller, Procurator Fiscal for Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism, said:

“Scotland is no place to profit from crime.

“Those who plan to make money from the sale of controlled drugs can find themselves not only apprehended and prosecuted and their drugs and cash seized, but their accounts can also be analysed by our specialist forensic accountants.

“Illegal profits they made years previously and no doubt thought safe can be uncovered and confiscated.

“The money recovered will be passed to the Scottish Government for re-investment in the community through the CashBack for Communities programme.”
