Glasgow man who ran 'cannabis farm' with his mum from their flat jailed
Ryan Gordon was sentenced to 15 months behind bars, while Carole Gordon was given a community payback order
A man convicted of running a cannabis farm with his mother from the spare bedroom of their Glasgow flat has been jailed for 15 months.
Ryan Gordon, 28, and Carole Gordon, 56, produced and supplied cannabis in February 2018 from their home in the Shettleston area.
The pair were found guilty in November of the charge after a three day trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Gordon, who had 25 previous convictions, was sentenced to 15 months for his part in the operation.
Sheriff Paul Crozier told him: “There is no other method of dealing with this other than sending you to jail.”
His mother, who is a first offender was tagged for six months and ordered to perform 250 hours unpaid work in the community.
During the trial, jurors had witnessed footage of the police raid on the three bedroom flat.
Cannabis plants were seen surrounded by equipment including five lights and seven fans used for "ventilation" purposes.
PC Rachel Logue, 28, told jurors that 20 cannabis plants were in the spare bedroom when they entered.
The officer described the smell inside the flat as “so bad you could smell it as we were entering the property.”
DC Greg Baxter, 42, formerly of the police's drug investigation team said the set-up of the spare bedroom was perfect for growing the drug.
He said: “What you have here is the perfect environment to grow cannabis.
“This is someone that knows how to grow cannabis.”
He added that creating the drug is “easy in theory but it is difficult.”
DC Baxter confirmed that the 20 plants could reach a potential street value of £12,000.
Eight small bags were among other larger cannabis filled bags also seized from the property following the raid.
DC Baxter told jurors that this was “evidence of drug dealing activity.”
The Gordons were also snared on a possession of cannabis charge.
