A dad-of-one from Glasgow who stored cocaine with a street value of £210,000 in his home to pay off a debt has been jailed for four and a half years.

38 year old John Cousins of Quarrywood Road was questioned by police after they saw him acting furtively.

He ran off, but fell and was quickly caught and tried to throw away a plastic bag containing a quarter kilo of cocaine with a maximum street value of £38,000.

A search of Cousins' home revealed cocaine stored in plastic bags in a cupboard in the main bedroom and in a camera bag in the living room.

The haul of cocaine found in the house had a maximum street value of £210,000.

Police also found an envelope containing four live bullets designed for use with a 9mm Luger pistol and tubs containing benzocaine and glucose which are used to adulterate cocaine.

At the High Court in Glasgow Cousins admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine on October 16 and 17, last year.

He also pleaded guilty to having four live bullets in his possession.

Cousins told police that he had been given £170 to take the bag of cocaine down the street.

He also said he was looking after the rest of the cocaine and the bullets from someone he owed money to.

He refused to say who this person was claiming he had concerns for his and his family's safety.

Judge Lord Boyd told Cousin that, but for his early plea of guilty, he would have jailed him for six years.
