A Glasgow City councillor's been removed from his position after failing to turn up to any meetings in the last six months.
James Coleman, who represented Baillieston, fell foul of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, which states that a member of a local authority loses office if they do not attend a meeting at least once in any 6-month period.
A by-election will now be held.
The act applies automatically if councillors do not proactively take a decision to accept the member’s absence.
The date of the by election has not yet been set.
Returning Officer Annemarie O’Donnell said: “If you live in Baillieston there is still time for you to register to vote and to register to vote by post in this by election.
“The Scottish parliament elections will be held in May and this is a perfect opportunity to make sure your voice will be heard. To register go to glasgow.gov.uk/registertovote.”
