Hundreds of members of the GMB union were set to strike next month but it has been stood down after the council's withdrawn proposals to change working arrangements

Two days of planned industrial action by Glasgow City Council workers has been called off.

Binmen, parks staff and social care workers, who are members of the GMB union, had voted to walk off the job next month in a pay dispute.

But, now the local authority has decided to withdraw proposals to replace some public holidays with annual leave, having "made significant progress delivering budget savings."

The administration is being forced to make £130 million of savings over the next two years and says "current budget out-turns are stronger than expected at this stage."

The GMB union had been in dispute over the changes to their working time arrangements claiming the shake up would have cost staff up to £1,000 a year.

The union has welcomed the development and says they will make statement on Monday.
