Glasgow City Council dealing with major cyber attack

The local authority says customer data is affected.

Glasgow City Council has been hit by a major cyber attack which is disrupting a number of online services and may have affected customer data.

The local authority's ICT supplier first noticed malicious activity on servers operated by a third-party on Thursday June 19.

The affected servers are offline which is impacting a number of day-to-day digital services.

The city council's head of communications is answering your questions:

A notice on the city council's website read: "Security specialists reviewing this incident have confirmed that it was not caused by email.

Email communication with the Council remains safe - although, as always, you should be suspicious of any email which asks you to provide bank account details, passwords or other secure information.

1The Council will never ask you for details like that by email."
