Glasgow charities are seeing a worrying increase in holiday hunger
As kids go off on holiday for Easter, charities say they are seeing more families go without
With classrooms now empty for the Easter holidays, Glasgow charities are telling Clyde News they are seeing a worrying increase in the number of families seeking support.
Third-sector organisations say the cost of living crisis and inflation is causing 'holiday hunger' to soar among Glasgow communities.
Merry Go Round foodbank on the south side of Glasgow provides care parcels for families which are struggling to provide while kids are out of schools.
Rajkiren Atwal is the general manager there, and has worked with the charity since it first opened it's doors in 2012.
She says there has been a noticeable increase in demand for support packages: "The holidays mean that families have to provide more meals at home.
"The kids are obviously not getting fed at school and they've also got to pay for childcare if they need it.
"Some families just can't afford that.
"We've definitely seen more people use Merry Go Round's services in the last year.
"Families are coming from different and low-income backgrounds and I'm sure other like-minded businesses would say the same.
"Our packs contain clothing, books, toys nappies.
"They're delivered to families on a low income and families in crisis and we've seen an increase in the use of this service."
