Glasgow charity's window goes pink for Barbie hitting cinema screens
The British Red Cross on Dumbarton Road is getting into the Barbie spirit!
A charity shop in Glasgow's West End is telling us their Barbie-themed window display has made them busier than ever.
The British Red Cross on Dumbarton Road is donning bright-pink paint and a collection of colourful outfits to mark the launch of the blockbuster, due to hit the big screens today.
Manager Alison Shields says the theme for this week's display was chosen by staff who were enjoying the build-up to the release of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Selfie hotspot
She says the display has made her storefront selfie-central for excited fans: "We put in a really bright Barbie window this week, and we always ask the staff and volunteers for ideas.
"They came up with this theme because the picture was coming out this week.
"We went out and bought loads of bright pink paint, and we used the most colourful clothes we had in the store to put out in the window, and we've had such a great response.
"It's been really popular with the local community but also people just passing, too.
"We've had people coming in to tell us that the window looks fantastic.
"We've had so many people stopping to take photos of the window itself or to take selfies and photos in front of the display."
Barbie-inspired looks
She hopes the interest in the store will continue, and encourage more shoppers to be thrifty when looking for a Barbie-themed outfit.
She said: "We've been so so busy with this and it's really helped our charity and show off the great work that the British Red Cross do.
"With the store being so bright, we've had a lot of new customers and they're surprised at the amount of new and donated stock that we have.
"You're getting fantastic stuff, it's about sustainability and it's been so so busy.
"It's just been a win-win situation for everyone."
