Glasgow bin collection changes
Glasgow is suspending collections of purple glass bin and brown food waste bins as a response to the Coronavirus.
A statement issued online by the City Council is instructing residents to put their food waste in the general bin and to double bag rubbish if any household members are displaying symptoms of Covid-19.
Those who think they may have the virus should wait 72 hours before placing garbage in the general waste bin.
So far there are no changes to general and blue recycling uplifts.
Councillor Anna Richardson, city convener for sustainability and carbon reduction, said: “We know that these are difficult times for anyone delivering front line services.
“Our teams are working hard to keep Glasgow clean. But we now need to make some service adjustments.
“Brown bin and food waste collections are now suspended. Please put all your food waste in your general waste.
“We also have to suspend glass bin collections – that’s your purple bins. It’s fine to put glass into your purple bin but we won’t be able to uplift it so please keep it in your garden.
“You can of course still take any glass to our public glass recycling sites. We are still uplifting from those at the moment.
“You can also help us to keep all of our staff safe. If any members of your household are showing symptoms of Coronavirus, please double back your waste before you put it into your bins.
“Thank you for helping us to keep the city clean and running at this difficult time.”
The council will continue to work closely with Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Health Protection Scotland to monitor and respond to the national situation.
