Air miles were replaced by running miles today as staff from Glasgow Airport pulled on their trainers and hit the runway to prepare for take-off ahead of the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run.

The team is calling on other Scottish businesses from Glasgow and beyond to get signed up for Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event.

They're entering as part of the Business Challenge which helps companies promote a healthy workforce and create some sporting team spirit as participants work together to take on the 10k or half marathon distance.

Both races start in George Square before following two iconic routes over the Kingston Bridge and through Glasgow’s south side, winding back into the city finishing in style at Glasgow Green.

Nicola Macnaughton, Communications Manager at Glasgow Airport said: “The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run is always an eagerly anticipated event in the Scottish running calendar.

"It’s fantastic that we’ve got a team together from Glasgow Airport to participate this year – getting fit is always much easier when you do it as part of a group, and we would urge other businesses to get involved.

"We’re all very excited about donning our trainers and pounding the streets in preparation for the big race day.”

Andy Mitchelmore from The Great Run Company, organisers of the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Glasgow Airport team to our Business Challenge for the first time and it’s great to see them out pounding the tarmac on the main runway!

“Signing up to the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run as part of a team definitely adds an element of motivation as everyone works towards a common goal.

"Whether it is to raise money for charity or simply for the sense of achievement that comes from completing the run as a team, I would encourage all businesses and organisations to consider signing up and joining us on October 4.”

Alasdair Gardner, Regional Managing Director, Scotland Commercial Banking, said: “Bank of Scotland is delighted to continue supporting the Great Scottish Run for a 7th consecutive year.

"The Business Challenge offers local businesses and organisations the opportunity to get involved in what promises to be a challenging but fun and worthwhile event. It is a wonderful chance to build colleague engagement while raising funds for charity.

"All of our clients will be offered the opportunity to enter the Business Challenge and we look forward to seeing as many of them as possible on the start line, along with a large representation from the Bank!”

The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run Business Challenge is open for entries at www.greatscottishrun.com. Teams can choose to take part in the 10k or the half marathon on October 4, 2015.

Teams have to be a minimum of four, maximum of eight and have to be all male, all female or, if mixed, minimum two male and two female. The organisers will take the fastest four times from each team towards the results.
