Flights back to normal at Glasgow Airport after "drone sighting"
Inbound aircraft were held on approach but officers say, " no trace of a drone was found"
Glasgow Airport says they've found no visible evidence of any drone activity after delays on Friday.
Flights are now back to normal after inbound aircraft were held on approach following reports of a possible sighting near the airport.
Officers say the area was searched but no trace of a drone was found and no further sightings have been made.
A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said:
“Inbound aircraft were held on approach following a report of a possible drone sighting near the airport.
“Our airfield team and Police Scotland colleagues were deployed to the sighting area. There was no visible evidence of any drone activity on their arrival and operations resumed."
“The flight crews of the Emirates’ Dubai and British Airways’ Gatwick services took the decision to divert to Edinburgh and Prestwick airports respectively."
“It is not only a criminal offence to operate a drone near an airport, it is also incredibly dangerous.
“Members of the public who witness or are aware of anyone operating a drone near the airport should contact Police Scotland immediately.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said:
“We were made aware of a possible drone sighting at Glasgow Airport shortly after 12.15pm on Friday, 23 September."
“The area was searched but no trace of a drone was found and no further sightings have been made."
"Further enquiries will be carried out.”
