People in Glasgow felt the safest when travelling by themselves on a late night out according to research on the late night economy, from The Deltic Group.
Glasgow was ranked number one followed by Cardiff then Belfast, according to The Deltic Night Index Report who carried out a comprehensive study into the UK’s late night economy.
People in Glasgow are also likely to spend the most on drinks in the venue, with an average spend of £18.82.
In Cardiff, people spent least on drinks, with an average spend of £10.94
Peter Marks, Chief Executive, The Deltic Group, commented, “Against the backdrop of recent news of club closures and reports on the decline of the late night economy, The Deltic Night Index Report shows us that this is not the case, and that going out is still very much on the agenda in the UK.
“Whether it’s to see our mates or to just have a dance – it seems that as a nation we still love a night out! Our data shows that nearly 40% of Brits go out on a late night out once a week and 72% of 18-21 year olds go out once a week or more, this clearly demonstrates that there is a need for late night venues on the UK’s high streets.
“The late night economy generates £66 billion annual revenue and is responsible for one third of town turnover, with this in mind it’s important we continue support and invest to ensure its future.”
Stuart Crawford, the coordinator of Glasgow Street Pastors told Clyde News; “The vast majority of the people that come into the city centre are there to really enjoy themselves.
"Occasionally we have to deal with people who have become aggressive because of too much alcohol or other substances. But I'd say that’s a rare situation.
“I think the safety of Glasgow is down to door stewards, Police Scotland, community safety officers and us.
"I think the fact everyone is working together and along with CCTV coverage, helps.”
