A giant block of ice crashed from the sky into the garden of an East Renfrewshire woman.

Lyndsey Helliwell arrived home from the gym to see a crater of 1.4m by 1.2m in her back garden, with a large block of ice nestled in it.

She told Clyde News: "My friend Eleanor who works for my husband phoned me about eleven o'clock saying she had heard a huge bang and the house shook.

"She said she looked outside and saw white fragments in the garden.

"I was on my way back from the gym so I came home and I was met with a huge crater in my garden, and it was a huge chunk of ice that had landed.

"It was quite astounding to be honest. Obviously quite scary because the dog could've been in the garden, the kids or anyone. It could've hit the house.

"It could have done a lot more damage than just leaving a big hole in my garden."

Mrs Helliwell now has to think about repairing the damage.

"It's obviously come from some height and it's shattered into quite a few pieces and there's a lot of tufts of grass that it's ripped up as well- it was huge.

"I don't know how my husband's going to fill that in, it's a lot bigger than one the dog would dig up that's for sure."
