The Garnock Campus school and swimming pool complex in North Ayrshire is closed following an electrical fire.

Fire crews were called to the campus, which houses both the Garnock Primary School and Early Years Centre and Garnock Academy on Sunday night (20th Feb) following the discovery of a small blaze in an ICT server room.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council told Clyde 1 an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and students are receiving lessons online.

Sprinker system activated

They said: “A minor electrical fire at Garnock Community Campus activated the sprinkler system late on Sunday evening.

“The small fire was contained and successfully extinguished. However, it has been necessary for the Campus to remain closed today (Monday) to allow a full inspection and safety checks to take place and to ensure all of our systems are operating normally.

“Parents/carers were informed this morning at 7am and we will provide them with further updates as soon as we have them. School staff will maintain educational delivery through established remote channels.”

The complex, which opened in 2017, includes a swimming pool operated by KA Leisure which tweeted a warning the building is closed.
