Gang attack van driver in Cambuslang
A man has suffered serious injuries to the head and face when he was attacked by a group of men as he closed his van in Cambuslang.
The 51-year-old was driving in Mill Road when he realised one of the vehicle's doors was open, and he got out to close it.
As he did so, four or five men challenged and then attacked him, leaving him seriously injured.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where he was treated for a serious head and facial injury.
He has since been released.
Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened at around 5pm on Tuesday.
Detective Constable Stuart Burnside, of Cambuslang CID, said: The injured man was driving his van on Mill Road when he realised one of the van doors was open. He stopped to get out to close it when, for some reason, he appears to have been challenged by four or five men who then seriously assaulted him.
'The attack was witnessed by a number of residents in the area who we have already spoken to, but we also know that the injured man seems to have gone into the middle of the road during the incident, causing a number of cars to swerve to avoid him.
'We are keen to trace the motorists as they may have information that can help our inquiry.
'If you were in the area and saw what happened, or have any information that will assist officers with their investigation, then please contact Cambuslang CID via 101, quoting incident number 2637/08/08/17. Alternatively, details can be passed in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
