A woman has been charged in connection with the death of a man found injured at a property in Galashiels on Friday night.

The 40-year-old was taken to Borders General Hospital after emergency services were called to an address in the town's Chris Paterson Place around 6pm on Friday, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man's been named locally as Brian Kowbel (pictured top), and devastated friends have taken to Radio Borders Facebook page to pay tribute. He's being described as an "absolute gem of a guy" and "one of the best".

One poster said he will be "a huge miss", while another added: "...a truly amazing human being. One of the nicest men. So heartbreaking."

Police have today (Sunday) confirmed a 37-year-old woman is expected to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court in connection with his death tomorrow (Monday).

The road at the edge of town development is named after the former Scotland rugby player who grew up in Galashiels.
