A charity helping vulnerable people in the centre of Glasgow at night time is warning its future is in doubt after failing to win multiple bids for grant funding.

Glasgow Street Aid started five years ago and is made up of volunteer medics helping people get home from nights out in the city centre safely.

Co-founder John Barclay told Clyde 1: "We deal with everybody and because we are so multi-faceted funders tell us that we don't have enough of a narrow focus.

"We are the first on-scene for some critically unwell patients and that can help save lives."

An online fundraising page has been started with a target of £100,000 because the charity only has enough money to keep going at full capacity for around 10 months.

The charity was started by Rebecca Blair and John Barclay.

The team requires enough cash to keep an ambulance running, to pay for medical supplies and safety equipment.

John added: "The pressure on the third sector is enormous just now.

"Bids for grant funding have lots of competition and if your bid doesn't match the expectation of the funder then you're forgotten about."
