Radio Clyde News has been told ship building will remain on the Clyde for the foreseeable future and the jobs of workers are secure.

The managing director of BAE told us he is certain work will begin on Type 26 frigates this summer despite the final contract still not having been signed.

The firm are still in the process of negotiating the 8 ship contract with the Ministry of Defense.

Iain Stevenson spoke to our reporter Natalie Crawford after the naming of the offshore patrol vessel HMS Forth this morning:

HMS Forth is the first vessel to me named on the Clyde since HMS Duncan in 2010 and is the first of five off shore patrol vehicles to be delivered by BAE.
