£3.5m funding secured for community regeneration projects in Glasgow
The multi-million pound initiative has been provided by the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
Over £3.5m of funding has been secured for three community regeneration projects by Glasgow City Council.
The multi-million pound initiative has been provided by the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
Cllr for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm Kenny McLean says this will allow the projects to develop and "make a significant impact" in their local areas.
"These projects will not only deliver physical and environmental improvements in these communities, but also create spaces that will offer social benefits to local people," he added.
The Meat Markets Sheds Regeneration Project is set to receive £2.64m to help towards creating flexible economic and community spaces for locals.
Another beneficiary from the grant is the SWG3: Yardworks Street Arts Hub which will use its £500,000 to provide a purpose-built facility which uses street arts to support social change.
SWG3 studio director and co-founder of Yardworks Gaz Mac said: "We’re extremely grateful for this funding which is a vital step towards increasing recognition for all street-based art forms across Scotland.
"It will also have a real impact within the local community, allowing us to continue our work with young people facing economic disadvantage, as well as working towards SWG3’s wider pans for regenerating the area."
The Greater Pollok Community Learning Hub is also set to receive £600,000.
Local community organisation South West Arts and Music Project (SWAMP) plan to use the funding to transform a property into shared space which will become the focal point for the local community to address social exclusion, inequality and disadvantage for young people.
Director of the SWAMP Trust Peter McGowan said: "This project is a much needed resource for the local community and is the result of 25 years of hard work by local residents."
