Fresh appeal for information on Thornliebank murder

There is a fresh appeal for information following the murder of Anthony Ferns in Thornliebank on Thursday 18th April.

The 33 year-old was sitting in a blue Audi A3 in Crebar Street at its junction with Roukenburn Street around 10.10pm, when he was approached by a man who attacked him.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that a car drove along Crebar Street and passed the Audi A3 just at the time the crime was taking place.

Detectives are appealing for the driver and occupants of this vehicle to contact them as they could have vital information which could assist the investigation. There is nothing to suggest that this vehicle has any connection to the crime.

The man who carried out the attack on Anthony is white, aged between 20-30 years of age and between 5ft 8 and 6ft in height. He was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit and possibly a light-coloured baseball cap. Following the incident he ran from the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Grant Macleod of the Major Investigations Team said:

“It is vital that the occupants of the car which was driving along Crebar Street and passed the Audi contacts us. They may not have been aware of what they were witnessing but I’m sure they have crucial information which could help us in our investigation. We are continuing to review CCTV images and have received a good response from the public which we are following up.

"The motive for this murder is unknown and we are still piecing together Anthony’s last known movements. Our enquiries so far have revealed that he drove to Main Street in Thornliebank just before 10pm and afterward returned to Roukenburn Street where the attack happened.

He continued: “Additional officers continue to patrol the area to provide reassurance to the local community, anyone who has any concerns or has any information can contact these officers or get in touch with us by calling 101. Please do pass any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, it could be important.”
