Freedom of Argyll and Bute for Paralympic wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid
World wheelchair tennis champion Gordon Reid to get accolade in recognition of his success.
Argyll and Bute Council has agreed to hold the special meeting necessary to approve a recommendation that wheelchair tennis player Gordon Reid - who has just returned from the Rio Paralympics with a gold and silver medal - be awarded the Freedom of Argyll and Bute.
Argyll and Bute Council's Provost Len Scoullar, said: "Gordon would be an immensely deserving recipient of this award.
Everyone in Arygll and Bute is rightly proud of his achievements and we are extremely pleased that we are in a position to be able to recognise his wonderful success in this way."
At its recent meeting, members of the council unanimously backed the recommendation by the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee that the Council should award Gordon the accolade in recognition of his national and international success.
Gordon, from Helensburgh and a former Hermitage Academy pupil, has just taken over as the world's number one wheelchair tennis player having also won the Australian Open and Wimbeldon titles this year.
In March this year Gordon officially opened the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.
The council will arrange a special ceremony at date and time to be confirmed.
