A 72-year-old man has died following a ‘medical incident’ in McDiarmid Park.
Moments before yesterday’s Scottish Premiership clash between St Johnstone and Aberdeen an elderly man fell ill in the stands of the Perth side’s stadium.
The football fan was treated by paramedics and medical staff from both teams for about an hour, but Police have since confirmed the man passed away.
Kick-off was delayed by around 15-minutes as emergency services attended the incident, while fans in the nearby area around the Crieff Road stand were ushered away.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
Aberdeen won the match 1-0 with a goal from Leighton Clarkson.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.50pm on Saturday, August 20, police were advised of a medical incident involving a man within McDiarmid Park, Perth.
“Emergency services attended, and a 72-year-old man died a short time later.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
